Thomas Partey, the former Arsenal footballer, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, as announced by London's Metropolitan Police. The charges stem from incidents involving three women that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, according to BBC and Reuters.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy stated, "Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward," and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the authorities. Partey is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5, according to Newsweek and Africanews.
The investigation into Partey began in February 2022 after police received an initial report of rape. He was subsequently arrested in July 2022, while the investigation continued without initially disclosing his identity, as noted by Al Jazeera and Africanews.
