  • Tropical Storm Barry weakens as it moves inland across Mexico.
  • Hurricane Flossie strengthens to Category 1, expected to bring heavy rains.
  • Flossie is forecast to remain offshore while affecting several states.

Two tropical storms have recently developed off Mexico's coasts. Tropical Storm Barry formed on the southeast coast, about 50 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan. It was projected to dump three to six inches of rain across Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, and Tamaulipas before weakening, while its maximum sustained winds were recorded at 45 mph according to CBS News.

Meanwhile, on the southwestern Pacific coast, Tropical Storm Flossie strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, as confirmed by the U.S. National Hurricane Center. Flossie is expected to move west-northwest and may drop substantial rain in Michoacan, Guerrero, Colima, and Jalisco, remaining offshore but causing potential flooding risks, according to India Times and Channel News Asia.

As Flossie continues to gain strength, it has triggered warnings along the southwestern coast with expectations of heavy rainfall leading to landslides and flooding, although a direct hit is not anticipated. President Claudia Sheinbaum urged residents to exercise caution as the storm impacts the region, referencing predictions by weather officials, as noted by India Times and Channel News Asia.
