Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is currently facing allegations of three rapes amidst a broader total of 23 suspected offenses, following a comprehensive ten-month investigation by Norwegian police. The inquiry commenced after Høiby’s arrest on August 4, 2024, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. According to police attorney Andreas Kruszewski, the allegations have since expanded significantly, indicating serious concerns that have shaken the royal family, especially given Høiby’s close ties to the Norwegian monarchy, being the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon. The allegations include not just rape but also violence, threats, and violations of restraining orders, with police confirming that some allegations were dismissed due to statute of limitations and evidentiary issues. Høiby has denied these claims, asserting his innocence in many cases, especially those surrounding sexual abuse and violence, according to Indiatimes, South China Morning Post, Le Monde, CBS News, and BBC.
The police investigation, which has now been completed, involves a "double-digit" number of alleged victims and a variety of allegations ranging from bodily harm to sexually offensive behavior. Høiby's lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, stated that her client does not accept any wrongdoing in most cases as the allegations encompass serious criminal charges. Høiby has reportedly been cooperative with investigators throughout the process, providing evidence that has included witness testimonies and digital materials, according to Indiatimes, South China Morning Post, Le Monde, CBS News, and BBC.
