  • India is investigating the Air India crash that killed 260 people on June 12.
  • The cockpit voice and flight data recorders have been recovered and are under analysis.
  • Final findings from the investigation are expected within a month.

India's civil aviation ministry is actively reconstructing the events that led to the Air India plane crash on June 12, which resulted in the tragic loss of 260 lives. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, marking this incident as the world's deadliest aviation disaster in the past decade. Authorities are focusing on identifying contributing factors to the crash, according to Reuters and Dawn.

The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR) were recovered soon after the crash, with the CVR found on June 13 and the FDR on June 16. Both black boxes were delivered to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) for data extraction. The ministry stated that critical data retrieval from the Crash Protection Module (CPM) has commenced, with ongoing analysis expected to yield preliminary insights into the cause of the crash within the next week or so, reports India Times.

The decision to analyze the black box data domestically, rather than sending it abroad, signifies a shift in the investigation process, with results anticipated much sooner than the typical six-month investigation timeframe. Over 20 experts from the United States' National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), who were already in the country for the investigation, are collaborating with Indian authorities in this effort, as noted by Dawn and India Times.

This catastrophic event has triggered heightened scrutiny over Air India’s adherence to safety protocols, especially following warnings about aircraft maintenance and pilot scheduling violations. Indian aviation regulators are closely monitoring the airline's compliance with safety regulations in the wake of this tragedy, according to Reuters, Dawn, and India Times.
