Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges related to an alleged assault on music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in London in February 2023. During a hearing at Southwark Crown Court, Brown denied the charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, stating, “Not guilty, ma’am,” as he confirmed his identity. His co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded not guilty to the same charge, according to Independent and CBS News.
Prosecutors allege that Brown and Akinlolu assaulted Diaw, striking him multiple times with a bottle and subsequently punching and kicking him in an unprovoked attack. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras within the nightclub, reports India Times and South China Morning Post.
Brown, who was arrested at a Manchester hotel last month, had been released on a £5 million bail, enabling him to continue his world tour. He is also facing additional charges, which include assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, but did not enter pleas for these during the hearing. The next court appearance is set for July 11, according to Reuters and Independent.
