The European Union has announced a ban on Chinese firms participating in state contracts for medical equipment worth more than €5 million (approximately $5.8 million). This measure is a direct response to China’s longstanding exclusions of EU medical devices from its government contracts, which Brussels cites as a discriminatory practice against EU businesses, representing a wider market worth €150 billion in the EU. "Our aim with these measures is to level the playing field for EU businesses," stated EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic, reinforcing the bloc's commitment to dialogue with China to resolve these ongoing tensions, according to India Times, Reuters, Channel News Asia, and Dawn.
