  • China accuses Trump of exacerbating the Iran-Israel conflict by urging evacuations.
  • Escalating hostilities have raised concerns of a wider regional conflict.
  • China is prepared to play a role in brokering a ceasefire between the two nations.
  • Calls for regional de-escalation have intensified amid ongoing attacks.
  • The US administration's stance on Iran complicates the chances for peace.

China has accused former US President Donald Trump of "adding fuel to the fire" of the escalating Iran-Israel conflict after he urged Iranians to evacuate Tehran. Amid ongoing military actions, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Trump's remarks would only "intensify contradictions and widen the conflict," calling for relevant parties to take immediate actions to de-escalate tensions, according to India Times and TRT Global.

As the conflict continues to evolve, with Israel conducting airstrikes on Iranian targets, concerns grow over the potential for a wider regional war. China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that escalating hostilities could spiral out of control, urging all involved to prioritize a ceasefire to prevent further deterioration of the situation. He made similar remarks in communications with his counterparts from Egypt and Oman, stressing the urgency of reaching a ceasefire agreement, as reported by South China Morning Post and Channel News Asia.

Chinese officials emphasize that their nation is willing to play a proactive role in negotiating peace, as indicated by recent high-level discussions between Chinese diplomats and their Iranian and Israeli counterparts. Guo Jiakun reiterated that a ceasefire is of "paramount urgency," while Wang Yi condemned Israel's actions as a breach of international law. The diplomatic outreach has been backed by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which also criticized Israeli military actions against Iran, according to India Times and South China Morning Post.

Amidst fear of prolonged conflict due to retaliation and strikes between Israel and Iran, Beijing has also initiated measures to evacuate its citizens from both nations. Following the latest wave of hostilities, with reports of significant casualties, the situation remains dire as international calls for peace continue to mount, highlighting the increasing risks associated with the ongoing fighting, as mentioned by TRT Global and Channel News Asia.
