Waymo has announced an expansion of its robotaxi services into more areas of the San Francisco peninsula and parts of Silicon Valley, following the recent approval from California regulators. Starting Tuesday, the company is adding new zones that include Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, and Burlingame. In Silicon Valley, expansions will cover additional territories in Palo Alto and Menlo Park, with further developments planned for Los Angeles as well, including areas like Playa del Rey and Silver Lake, according to Channel News Asia and South China Morning Post.

This initiative comes as Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, positions itself as the sole commercial robotaxi operator in the U.S., leveraging its fleet of over 1,500 vehicles to complete more than 250,000 rides weekly across San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Austin. The latest expansions will not yet include routes to San Francisco International Airport, although Waymo mapped the roadways there in spring, as reported by SFGATE and Channel News Asia.

Despite receiving approval to extend its services to San Jose, Waymo has not yet announced specific plans to launch in that city. Chris Bonelli, a Waymo spokesperson, mentioned in a press release that the company has now completed over 10 million paid rides, showcasing the growing demand for its services, according to SFGATE and South China Morning Post.
