In a tragic shooting incident at the WestFest carnival in West Valley City, Utah, three people, including an eight-month-old infant, were killed when a 16-year-old boy opened fire during an altercation between two groups. The incident occurred around 9:20 PM on Sunday night, with police confirming the involvement of several people in a heated argument just before the gunfire erupted, according to Reuters and CBS News.
Among the deceased is a 41-year-old female bystander, alongside the infant and an 18-year-old male from one of the groups involved in the dispute. Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, were also injured, sustaining gunshot wounds to their arms, although it remains unclear if they were involved in the altercation, according to Newsweek and HuffPost.
West Valley City police stated they observed the two groups before the shooting began and attempted to intervene. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested and taken into custody promptly. Authorities are investigating whether the violence may have any connection to gang activity, a question still open as they interview witnesses from the event, as reported by Newsweek and Reuters.
