An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating flight AI315, returned to Hong Kong after the pilot suspected a mid-air technical issue shortly after take-off on Monday. This precautionary action aimed to ensure passenger safety, especially coming just days after an Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad, killing a significant number of people, including 241 of 242 passengers onboard the ill-fated flight to London, according to Channel News Asia and Reuters.
The aircraft took off from Hong Kong at approximately 12:16 PM but returned less than 30 minutes later, making a safe landing around 1:15 PM. The Airport Authority of Hong Kong confirmed that the airport's operations were not affected by the diversion of Flight AI315, which is now undergoing thorough checks, according to India Times and Dawn.
Following the Ahmedabad incident, Indian authorities instructed Air India to complete a series of additional safety checks on its Boeing 787 fleet before further operations, as safety remains a top priority. Air India has stated that alternative arrangements would be made for the affected passengers on the diverted flight, as reported by Newsweek and South China Morning Post.
