Indonesian police have arrested three Australian men in connection with the shooting that resulted in the death of Zivan Radmanovic, a 32-year-old tourist, at a villa in Bali's tourist hub, Badung. The incident occurred just after midnight, leading to a days-long manhunt for the suspects. Police apprehended one individual at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and the other two abroad through Interpol's assistance, according to channelnewsasia and thejakartapost.
Radmanovic was shot while in the bathroom of his villa, with witnesses reporting that the two attackers had Australian accents. Sanar Ghanim, a friend also from Australia, was injured in the attack but survived. Police discovered evidence including bullet casings and firearms at the scene, with witnesses reporting the attackers spoke English with a strong Australian accent. The collected evidence could lead to further developments as the investigation continues, according to Reuters and SCMP.
Authorities initially reported two arrests prior to the recent developments, adding that all three suspects face serious charges including premeditated murder, which could lead to the death penalty. The police chief emphasized that local officers are cooperating with the Australian Federal Police in efforts to further clarify the case, as gun violence is relatively rare in Bali, where strict laws govern gun ownership. These new arrests highlight the ongoing issues faced by foreign travelers in Bali, where despite its popularity, violent crimes are uncommon, according to BBC and India Times.
