A significant outage hit Alphabet's Google Cloud on June 12, leading to disruptions for Spotify, Discord, and other platforms. Downdetector reported that there were over 10,000 instances related to issues with Google Cloud, alongside more than 44,000 reports concerning Spotify, around 2:46 p.m. ET, according to Channel News Asia and Reuters.
Google Cloud admitted that multiple products were experiencing service disruptions and stated, "Our engineers are continuing to mitigate the issue, and we have confirmation that the issue is recovered in some locations," as highlighted on their status page. Reports indicated varying levels of impact on services, with users encountering difficulties with apps like Gmail and Google Meet, as noted by India Times and AA.
An incident report from Google Cloud revealed that the disruption was caused by an identity and access management issue, impacting numerous cloud components. "We are deeply sorry for the impact," Google stated. They have indicated that they will publish a more comprehensive report detailing the incident shortly, according to India Times and India Times.
