The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Sunday that it has located and identified the body of Mohammed Sinwar, a senior military leader of Hamas, three weeks after he was killed in an airstrike. His body was discovered in an underground tunnel beneath the European Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, according to reports by South China Morning Post and BBC.
The operation that led to Sinwar's death occurred on May 13, during which several other Hamas leaders, including Mohammad Shabana from the Rafah Brigade, were also killed. Brigadier General Effie Defrin of the IDF stated that Sinwar’s body was confirmed through DNA testing and emphasized the strategic significance of the tunnel system serving as a command center for Hamas. This information was corroborated by Reuters and India Times.
IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin criticized Hamas for allegedly using civilians as human shields, asserting that their operations are deeply embedded within civilian infrastructure. This viewpoint aligns with the Israeli military's broader claims about Hamas's tactics in the conflict, which has raised international concerns as reported by Channel News Asia and Reuters.
