Russia launched a record 479 drones in a massive overnight attack on Ukraine, the largest since the beginning of the conflict, as reported by multiple sources, including IndiaTimes and TRT Global. The Ukrainian air force confirmed that significant damage occurred across several regions, although initial reports indicated no mass casualties, just one reported fatality in Kyiv.
The assault included 20 missiles aimed at various targets across Ukraine, primarily in central and western regions. Ukraine's air defense managed to intercept or shoot down 460 drones and 19 missiles, allowing only 10 to hit their targets, according to The New York Times and South China Morning Post.
In addition to these aerial assaults, Ukraine conducted retaliatory strikes against a Russian electronics factory that manufactures drone components, leading to temporary production halts, as mentioned by Al Jazeera and Reuters.
The latest hostilities come as diplomatic discussions for a ceasefire remain stagnant, with both Ukraine and Russia accusing each other of failing to adhere to terms set in previous negotiations. President Zelensky highlighted the urgent need for international support, as reported by HuffPost and LA Times.
Following the drone barrage, additional attacks on Kyiv resulted in reported injuries and fatalities, including damage to a maternity ward in Odesa, where one civilian was killed and several others injured, according to Channel News Asia and IndiaTimes.
