Recent violence in Gaza continues to escalate, with at least 60 Palestinians killed while attempting to access food aid at distribution points run by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Many individuals were shot as they gathered near the Netzarim corridor, prompting medical sources to report numerous casualties, including children and women, admitted to hospitals such as Al-Shifa and Al-Awda, according to Middle East Eye and Anadolu Agency.
As violence escalates, the GHF reported that their staff members have faced serious risks, underscoring tensions with Hamas. During one incident, GHF claimed that a bus carrying aid workers was attacked, resulting in the deaths of at least five team members. The foundation has urged the international community to condemn these attacks, which they classify as targeted violence against humanitarian efforts, according to Channel News Asia and Los Angeles Times.
With over 55,200 Palestinians reported dead since October 2023, Israeli military actions have drawn widespread criticism, particularly surrounding the humanitarian distribution model employed by the GHF. Critics assert that this system, which aims to bypass traditional UN aid provision methods, is deeply flawed and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in Gaza amidst accusations of fueling violence around aid distribution sites, as reported by Anadolu Agency and Anadolu Agency.
Furthermore, media reports highlight the profound risk of famine and the dire humanitarian situation facing Gaza’s 2.1 million residents. According to the UN and multiple humanitarian organizations, the latest model of aid distribution is criticized as failure to adequately meet significant needs amid accusations that aid is being politicized. The lack of safe passage for civilians trying to access food continues to incite international outrage, as stressed by BBC and Al Jazeera.
