Guatemalan authorities have evacuated more than 700 residents due to the eruption of the Fuego volcano, which has been spewing gas and ash into the atmosphere. Residents from communities in Escuintla, Sacatepequez, and Chimaltenango were moved to shelters for safety, following concerns about increased volcanic activity, according to Le Monde and Al Jazeera.

On June 6, the volcano's activity intensified, with ash plumes reported to reach heights of up to 5 kilometers. Images shared on social media showed the lava flow accumulating dangerously close to the crater, heightening local fears of further eruptions, as noted by Reuters and Channel News Asia.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) stated that authorities have suspended classes in 39 schools and closed major roadways linking affected regions with tourist sites to ensure public safety. Precautionary measures are in place as volcanic activity is projected to continue for at least 40 hours, affecting air navigation and surrounding communities, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters.
