  • Chad has halted visa issuance for U.S. citizens following a U.S. travel ban.
  • President Idriss Deby emphasized the need for reciprocity between nations.
  • The ban affects twelve countries, including Chad, due to security concerns.

Chad has announced the suspension of visa issuance to U.S. citizens in response to the U.S. travel ban that targets Chadian nationals. President Idriss Deby shared this decision via Facebook, stating, "I have instructed the government to act in accordance with the principles of reciprocity and suspend the issuance of visas to U.S. citizens," reflecting the nation's stance on equal treatment in diplomatic relations, according to Reuters and TRT Global.

Deby criticized the U.S. for excluding Chad, part of a group listed as having "deficient" screening processes. He quipped, "Chad has no planes to offer, no billions of dollars to give but Chad has its dignity and pride," in reference to the $400 million plane gift offered to the U.S. by Qatar, underscoring Chad’s rejection of perceived disrespect, according to Africa News.

This visa suspension follows President Trump’s announcement of the travel ban affecting twelve countries, which has sparked various diplomatic reactions across Africa. Countries such as the Republic of Congo are expressing concern, arguing that the bans stem from misunderstandings regarding security threats, as different nations seek to clarify their positions with the U.S. government, according to Reuters and Africa News.
