  • Two suspected terrorists killed in explosion during Uganda's Martyrs' Day celebrations in Kampala.
  • The suspects were associated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), linked to previous attacks.
  • No civilian injuries were reported despite the proximity to a gathering of worshippers.

On Uganda's Martyrs' Day, two individuals identified by the army as "armed terrorists" were killed in a blast in Kampala's Munyonyo suburb. One of the deceased was a female suicide bomber, while the other was a male suspect, both reportedly on a motorcycle. The incident occurred near the Munyonyo Martyrs' Shrine where crowds had gathered to commemorate Christian martyrs executed in the 19th century, according to BBC, africanews, and Al Jazeera.

The Ugandan military stated that their counterterrorism unit "intercepted and neutralized" the two suspects who were believed to be linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group historically associated with ISIS. Witness accounts indicated that the female bomber detonated explosives as security forces approached, though there were no civilian injuries reported, as confirmed by military spokesperson Chris Magezi and police officials, africanews and Al Jazeera.

This year's Martyrs' Day event, which attracts thousands of pilgrims, was overshadowed by heightened security concerns following the recent attack. Authorities indicated that security measures had been intensified across the capital to prevent further incidents, highlighting ongoing fears of extremist threats in the region, according to BBC and africanews.
