The flood crisis in northeastern India has escalated significantly, with the death toll reaching 44 after additional fatalities were reported in recent days. Officials from Assam indicate that out of these, 12 people have died due to flooding, with fresh casualties emerging as conditions worsen. 5 deaths from landslides have also contributed to this grim tally, notably increasing concern across the region, according to Indiatimes, AA, and TRT.

As torrential rain continues to cause flooding, authorities have confirmed that over 1,489 villages and approximately 617,136 individuals are currently affected across the northeastern states. In Assam, local authorities have reported that authority response teams are working under extreme conditions to aid those displaced, highlighting that nearly 70,000 reside in relief camps due to inundation, according to Indiatimes, AA, and TRT.

In response to the emergency, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that the central government is ready to provide all necessary support to the affected states. The Indian Army is also actively engaged in ongoing search and rescue operations in hazardous conditions, especially in Sikkim where recent landslides have heightened dangers, as noted by the officials and military statements, according to AA and TRT.
