Michael J. Fox and his fellow stars from the classic 1985 film 'Back to the Future' have launched a public appeal to locate a red Gibson guitar, an iconic piece from the film. The guitar, a Gibson ES-345 Cherry Red, became famous when Fox's character, Marty McFly, electrified a 1950s high school dance with wild guitar riffs. Fox humorously remarked, "It's somewhere lost in the space-time continuum, or it's in some Teamster's garage," as co-stars Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd, and Harry Waters Jr. joined the effort, supported by singer Huey Lewis, whose song "The Power of Love" featured prominently in the film, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
The search for the guitar has been ongoing since it vanished after filming wrapped. Gibson, the guitar’s manufacturer, is not only seeking to recover the instrument but is also producing a documentary titled 'Lost to the Future' to chronicle the quest and the film's legacy. They have plans to re-issue the Cherry Red ES-345 model in October 2025, which adds to the excitement surrounding the search, according to Channel News Asia and Reuters.
