Jonathan Joss, the renowned voice actor behind John Redcorn from "King of the Hill," was fatally shot near his home in San Antonio on Sunday evening. The San Antonio police reported that officers found the 59-year-old lying in a roadway with multiple gunshot wounds around 7 p.m. After emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, Joss was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The New York Times and CBS News.
The shooter, identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested and charged with murder. Neighbors stated that there was a longstanding feud between Joss and Ceja, with previous altercations reported. Joss reportedly often became agitated during neighborhood disputes, although nothing escalated to violence until now, as reported by India Times and HuffPost.
Joss's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, described the attack as a homophobic incident amid years of harassment from neighbors unwilling to accept their relationship. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other," de Gonzales said, confirming they were unarmed and grieving when Ceja approached them, lobbing homophobic slurs before opening fire, according to India Times and Channel News Asia.
The police have stated that their ongoing investigation found no evidence that suggested Joss's murder was motivated by his sexual orientation, emphasizing that they are taking the allegations seriously. Joss had expressed gratitude to his fans and was involved in promoting a revival of "King of the Hill," having worked on new episodes shortly before his death, reported Los Angeles Times and SFGate.
