Former President Joe Biden delivered his first public remarks since announcing his diagnosis of an aggressive form of prostate cancer during a Memorial Day service in New Castle, Delaware. Speaking at Veterans Memorial Park, he assured attendees that he is currently undergoing treatment and shared, “The expectation is we’re gonna be able to beat this. I’m feeling good” according to LA Times, SCMP, and India Times.
This appearance coincided with the 10th anniversary of his son Beau's passing, which he emotionally referenced during his speech. Biden stated, “This day is the 10th anniversary of the loss of my son Beau... Being with all of you, quite frankly, makes things a little bit easier” according to LA Times, SCMP, and India Times.
Biden's remarks also come amidst ongoing discussions regarding his mental and physical health following a recent controversial book. In response to questions regarding his state, he asserted, “You can see I’m mentally competent and I can walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” referring to doubts cast by political opponents, according to LA Times, SCMP, and India Times.
