FBI Refocuses on High-Profile Investigations Including White House Cocaine and Dobbs Leak

Credited from: CBSNEWS

  • FBI to reopen investigations into three significant public corruption cases.
  • Cases include cocaine discovered at the White House and the Dobbs Supreme Court opinion leak.
  • Investigations have been renewed amid growing political scrutiny and interest.
  • FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has requested weekly updates on the cases' progress.
  • Unresolved cases from the Biden administration continue to spark controversy.

The FBI has announced a renewed focus on multiple high-profile cases, including the 2023 discovery of cocaine at the White House and the 2022 leak of the Supreme Court's draft opinion regarding the repeal of Roe v. Wade. Deputy Director Dan Bongino outlined these developments, stating that the agency has opted to reopen or allocate additional resources to these investigations, which he described as cases of potential public corruption that have garnered substantial public interest, according to The Hill, ABC News, and Channel News Asia.

The cocaine incident, which occurred during the Fourth of July weekend of 2023, involved a small bag found in a cubby near the White House entrance. Initial investigations by the Secret Service closed due to lack of identifying evidence, but the case has attracted intense scrutiny from conservative lawmakers. The FBI’s renewed focus on this matter follows Bongino's comments suggesting that involvement could lie within the Biden family, claims which were made without substantiating evidence, as reported by Reuters and Newsweek.

The second major case involves the breach of confidentiality surrounding the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, which resulted in the landmark case being published by Politico in May 2022. This leak prompted substantial political and social upheaval, leading to protests and an internal investigation by the Supreme Court itself. Despite an extensive eight-month inquiry, the identity of the leaker was never uncovered, as noted by CBS News and NPR.

Additionally, Bongino indicated that the agency is revisiting the case of the pipe bombs that were discovered outside the RNC and DNC headquarters in January 2021, the night before the Capitol riot. This incident remains unresolved despite it being investigated for over four years and receiving significant media attention. Law enforcement has promised to renew efforts to find the individual responsible, according to ABC News and Channel News Asia.
