Ukraine has confirmed that China is supplying a variety of important products to Russian military factories, according to the chief of Ukraine's foreign intelligence, Oleh Ivashchenko. This report states that China provides tooling machines, special chemical products, gunpowder, and other components crucial for defense manufacturing industries, with confirmed assistance to 20 Russian factories. The allegations have escalated tensions as Ukraine's President Zelenskyy openly accused China of providing military support for Russia, marking a significant shift in diplomatic rhetoric, according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.
Ivashchenko also indicated that there are at least five documented cases of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the aviation sector scheduled for 2024 and 2025, involving the transfer of equipment and technical documentation. Moreover, he mentioned there have been six instances of large shipments of specialty chemicals, although specifics were not detailed. These observations add to the complexities of China's relationship with Russia amid ongoing Western sanctions, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters.
China has consistently denied these allegations from Ukraine, labeling them as "groundless." Despite these denials, Kyiv has proceeded to impose sanctions on three Chinese entities as a response to the accusations. The intelligence chief claimed that by early 2025, around 80 percent of critical electronic components used in Russian drones are expected to have originated from China, further complicating the situation as the conflict continues, according to Channel News Asia and Al Jazeera.
