Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 84-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate and interim head of Bangladesh, is reportedly considering stepping down due to political instability and a lack of agreement on necessary reforms. As per a meeting with Nahid Islam, the leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Yunus expressed difficulty in fulfilling his responsibilities without political party cooperation. "He said if he cannot do the work he was asked to do - reform the system and prepare for fair elections - then he may have to leave," Islam stated, highlighting Yunus's feelings of being trapped amid competing political demands and public frustration, according to India Times, Reuters, The Jakarta Post, and Channel News Asia.

Since assuming power last August after a student-led uprising ousted then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Yunus had committed to implementing major reforms.
