The U.S. Army plans to change the records of transgender soldiers, reverting them to reflect only their sex at birth, as outlined in an internal memo reviewed by multiple news organizations. This directive mandates commanders to "immediately update personnel records and administrative systems to reflect biological sex," which the Army considers "unchanging during a person's life," echoing earlier guidelines from the Pentagon, according to Dawn, Reuters, and Channel News Asia.
This policy comes in the context of the Trump administration's renewed restrictions on transgender service members following a recent Supreme Court ruling that supports a ban. The Pentagon has also outlined plans to begin discharging transgender troops who do not choose to leave voluntarily by June 6 and to cease gender-affirming healthcare for them, as reported by Reuters and Dawn.
In addition to the record changes, the Army stipulates that pronoun usage must align with an individual's biological sex and that access to “intimate spaces” will also be determined by birth sex. The document emphasizes that all shared intimate spaces will be clearly designated for male, female, or family use, according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.
