British Foreign Minister David Lammy announced that the UK and the US are collaborating to ensure a lasting ceasefire and to facilitate dialogue between India and Pakistan. Speaking in Islamabad, Lammy noted, "We will continue to work with the United States to ensure that we get an enduring ceasefire, to ensure that dialogue is happening," emphasizing the necessity of confidence-building measures in the relationship between the two nuclear-armed countries, which recently agreed to cease hostilities after nearly three decades of severe conflict. The statements were made at the conclusion of his two-day visit to Pakistan, where he met with government officials to discuss cooperative efforts, according to Reuters, TRT Global, and Dawn.

The ceasefire was reached on May 10 and followed escalating tensions, including accusations from India of Pakistan's involvement in a deadly attack on tourists. Lammy also pointed to the potential repercussions of India's suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, a critical agreement for Pakistan's water supply, stating, "We would urge all sides to meet their treaty obligations." Diplomats and analysts warn that while the ceasefire is a positive step, it remains fragile and subject to the history of conflict between the two nations, according to Reuters, TRT Global, and Dawn.

Moreover, Lammy praised Pakistan for its role in assisting the relocation of Afghan refugees to the UK, highlighting a multifaceted relationship that goes beyond just military concerns. He stated that this collaboration includes addressing issues of terrorism, which he described as "a terrible blight on this country and its people." This cooperation reflects the broader UK-Pakistan relationship, which encompasses developmental partnerships and joint efforts against organized crime, according to Dawn.
