Music superstar Taylor Swift has reportedly been subpoenaed as a witness in the ongoing legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, concerning the making of their 2024 film "It Ends With Us." A representative for Swift stated that her involvement in the production was limited to permitting a song, "My Tears Ricochet," to be used in the film, dismissing the subpoena as an attempt to use her fame to generate public interest instead of focusing on the case's facts, according to CBS News and Los Angeles Times.
The legal troubles began last December when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment on set, leading to a counter lawsuit where Baldoni claimed her accusations harmed his career and reputation. The situation escalated as he sought $400 million from Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for defamation and other claims, reports South China Morning Post and Business Insider.
In response to the subpoena, Swift's representatives emphasized that she had never set foot on the movie's set and had no role in any casting, scoring, or creative decisions. They reiterated that her only connection was licensing her song, which was also used by 19 other artists. This was characterized as a strategy to create "tabloid clickbait," according to Los Angeles Times and Business Insider.
Additionally, Lively's communications indicated she regarded Swift and Reynolds as her "dragons," drawing parallels to characters from "Game of Thrones." These messages were cited in Baldoni's complaints, contributing further to the media frenzy surrounding the case. The emergence of these details highlights the intertwining of personal and professional relationships within Hollywood, as reported by CBS News and South China Morning Post.
