Three corrections officers were injured during a violent, coordinated attack by inmates associated with the MS-13 gang at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Virginia on Friday. The attack involved six inmates, with five being confirmed MS-13 members from El Salvador who were in the U.S. illegally, according to the Virginia Department of Corrections. The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m., resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries for the officers involved as they responded to the situation. Medical attention was required for five officers following the incident, with three being treated and discharged, while the remaining two were hospitalized in stable condition, according to India Times and ABC News.

The Virginia Department of Corrections confirmed that all involved inmates had prior convictions for violent crimes, including murder and rape. Chad Dotson, Director of the Virginia DOC, emphasized that "five of the individuals responsible for this senseless attack should never have been in this country in the first place," noting the daily dangers faced by corrections officers.
