  • Fines are a result of a prank call to quarterback Shedeur Sanders during the NFL Draft.
  • Jax Ulbrich, the coach's son, admitted to prank calling Sanders, claiming to be a Saints' GM.
  • Apologies issued by both the Falcons organization and the Ulbrich family.
  • Falcons have pledged to enhance their security practices to prevent data leaks.

The NFL has levied a total fine of $350,000 against the Atlanta Falcons and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich after a prank call incident involving Ulbrich's son, Jax. The Atlanta Falcons have been fined $250,000, while Jeff Ulbrich faces a personal fine of $100,000 for "failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information" during the crucial NFL Draft period, according to CBS News and Reuters.

According to the Falcons, the prank involved Jax Ulbrich accessing Shedeur Sanders' contact information from an unsecured iPad while visiting his parents' home. During the call, masquerading as Saints' general manager Mickey Loomis, Jax told Sanders that he would be selected by the Saints, only to later reveal that Sanders would have to wait longer before being picked, which ultimately did not happen until the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. This breach raised significant concerns about player privacy during the NFL Draft, as reported by SFGate and Reuters.

In response to the incident, both the Falcons and Jeff Ulbrich expressed their remorse. The organization stated they "accept the discipline" and noted that Jax Ulbrich plans to participate in community service initiatives related to this issue. Jax publicly apologized, calling his actions "completely inexcusable," and acknowledged the embarrassment caused to Sanders and his family, according to BBC and Reuters.

Further investigations have revealed that this prank call was not an isolated incident, with other prospects also reporting similar experiences during the draft, including players like Tyler Warren and Kyle McCord. The league is continuing to probe various prank calls made during this significant event, as mentioned by Reuters and SFGate.
