A high school student in South Korea launched a shocking stabbing attack on Monday morning, injuring seven people, including a school principal and several staff members. The incident occurred at around 8:33 am at a high school in Cheongju, located about 110 kilometers south of Seoul. Reports indicate that the attacker, an 18-year-old enrolled in special education, initiated the assault during a counseling session with a teacher, proceeding to stab various individuals in the hallway with a utility knife, according to South China Morning Post, Channel News Asia, and India Times.

The attack resulted in multiple injuries, where the headmaster was reported to have sustained an abdominal stab wound, and a government employee was also seriously injured in the chest. Witnesses recounted that the student, after fleeing the scene, jumped into a nearby reservoir but was arrested shortly thereafter. "I opened the window and he stabbed my face without saying anything before running away," stated Im, a passerby who received minor injuries during the incident, according to Anadolu Agency and Channel News Asia.

Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening and initiated an investigation into the student's motives and background. The student, previously in a special education class but recently transitioned to a general class, reportedly had borderline intellectual functioning. Furthermore, police confiscated several weapons, including a box cutter, from the student's belongings at the time of the attack, according to South China Morning Post and India Times.

Following this incident, Yoon Geon-young, the superintendent for Chungbuk province, emphasized the importance of preventing such events and ensuring student safety. He remarked, "We will analyze and review the cause and circumstances of the incident," highlighting the ongoing concerns surrounding school violence in South Korea, especially after similar previous incidents in recent months, as reported by South China Morning Post and Anadolu Agency.
