On April 25, 2025, soldiers in India-administered Kashmir blew up the family homes of two suspects linked to a recent massacre in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead. The attack is recorded as one of the deadliest against civilians in the region in decades, prompting a massive manhunt by Indian security forces aimed at the suspects identified as members of the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which is designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, according to Channel News Asia, South China Morning Post, and TRT Global.
Indian police have issued wanted posters for three individuals: Indian national Adil Hussain Thoker and Pakistani nationals Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa. They are also searching for another Indian citizen, Ashif Sheikh. After the attack, the families of the suspected militants faced detentions for questioning and the homes were subsequently destroyed by security forces as part of their crackdown, as reported by Dawn and South China Morning Post.
Yasmeena, sister of suspect Ashif Sheikh, recounted how soldiers cordoned off their home before demolishing it, stating, “After some time, a big frightening blast brought the house down. Everything inside is destroyed,” highlighting the destruction faced by the families without any occupants present. Furthermore, reports indicate that both Thoker and Sheikh have been active for three to four years and are affiliated with the LeT faction known as The Resistance Front (TRF), according to Channel News Asia, South China Morning Post, and TRT Global.
In response to the attacks, Indian authorities have offered a bounty of two million rupees (approximately $23,500) for information leading to the apprehension of each suspect. This incident has also contributed to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, with accusations of cross-border terrorism being exchanged, as stated in Channel News Asia and Dawn.
