  • Kidd expresses honor in joining at a pivotal time for the club.

NBA Hall of Famer and current coach of the Dallas Mavericks, Jason Kidd, has joined Everton's ownership group, becoming a member of Roundhouse Capital Holdings, part of The Friedkin Group that took over the club in December. Kidd, who is a 10-time NBA All-Star and double Olympic champion, emphasized the timeliness of his joining, stating, "I'm honoured to be joining Everton's ownership at such an important moment: with a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it's a great moment to come on board," according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.

Everton has agreed to a long-term financing deal for a new stadium with a capacity of 52,888, securing a funding amounting to £350 million ($465.96 million) to refinance existing debts. Kidd's addition to the club comes as they prepare to transition from Goodison Park to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium for the 2025-26 season. The club is currently positioned 13th in the Premier League after a managerial change brought David Moyes back, turning their season around, according to BBC and Channel News Asia.

Everton's executive chairman Marc Watts remarked on Kidd’s value to the club, saying, "as one of the NBA's greatest players and now a successful coach, his knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource for Everton." This sentiment reiterates Kidd's potential impact on the club's aspirations, as he represents a growing trend of high-profile Americans investing in English football, according to Reuters and BBC.
