Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, has announced a significant pivot toward financial services with plans to launch a series of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in partnership with Crypto.com and Yorkville America Digital. This strategic move is designed to diversify its revenue streams after struggling to secure sufficient advertising for its social media platform, according to The New York Times and Channel News Asia.
The planned ETFs will focus on digital assets and traditional securities, emphasizing a "Made in America" approach. TMTG CEO Devin Nunes highlighted that this collaboration seeks to position the funds for investors who believe both digital assets and the American economy are on the cusp of significant growth, as noted by Newsweek.
To ensure a successful rollout, TMTG intends to invest $250 million of its cash reserves into the ETFs, which are expected to be widely available in markets across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, pending regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Notably, no ETF filings have yet been submitted to the SEC, implying that regulatory processes are still forthcoming, according to Channel News Asia and Newsweek.
The partnership also follows the recent closure of an investigation by the SEC into Crypto.com without any enforcement action, a favorable outcome for both parties as they prepare for the new venture. On the market front, TMTG shares surged nearly 5% following the announcement, although the stock remains down over 30% year-to-date, according to The New York Times.
This ambitious move into financial services by TMTG is part of a broader trend within the Trump organization to engage with digital assets; previous initiatives have included the launch of Trump NFTs and other cryptocurrency ventures. As TMTG moves forward, it represents a significant step into a new financial landscape, catering to investors aligned with Trump's political ideologies, according to Channel News Asia and Newsweek.
