  • Trump claims the Ukraine war is Biden's responsibility, not his.
  • He has criticized both Biden and Zelensky for failing to prevent the war.
  • Trump highlights his past relationship with Putin as a stabilizing factor.
  • Recent missile strikes have drawn international condemnation amidst ongoing conflict.
  • Trump suggests that energy policies contributed to the war's escalation.

Former President Donald Trump has renewed his criticisms of both President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, asserting they are at fault for the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared, "The War between Russia and Ukraine is Biden’s war, not mine. I just got here, and for four years during my term, had no problem in preventing it from happening," according to The Hill.

Trump accused Biden and Zelensky of "allowing this travesty to begin," claiming, "There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting," yet he failed to provide specific actions that could have averted the conflict initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022. Trump argued that during his presidency, "Putin, and everyone else, respected your President," indicating a shift in dynamics since his departure from office, states HuffPost.

In further remarks, Trump expanded his list of those responsible for the war to include Putin, asserting, "If Biden were competent, and if Zelenskyy were competent... that war should’ve never been allowed to happen." He remarked on Zelenskyy’s requests for military aid, saying, "He’s always looking to purchase missiles," and suggested that one should not start a conflict against a significantly larger adversary without a solid strategy to win, as reported by South China Morning Post.

Trump's comments came shortly after a missile strike by Russia on the Ukrainian city of Sumy resulted in numerous casualties. He characterized the incident as a "horrible thing" and suggested it might have been a mistake. However, he quickly pivoted back to the blame game, reiterating, "This is Biden's war. I'm just trying to get it stopped so that we can save a lot of lives," according to India Times.

Moreover, Trump expressed that the conflict could have been mitigated by lower energy prices in the U.S., criticizing Biden’s energy policies as a factor that has exacerbated the situation. He posited that “if you lowered oil prices - Biden kept the prices so high because he made it impossible to get it,” highlighting how he believes energy independence impacts geopolitical stability, as mentioned in India Times.
