Robert Morris, the former senior pastor of the influential Gateway Church in Texas and a former faith advisor to the Trump administration, has been indicted on five counts of child sexual abuse. This decision was announced by the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office, following years of allegations made by Cindy Clemishire.

The allegations date back to the 1980s when Morris, who was 25 at the time, allegedly molested Clemishire, who was just 12 years old. The abuse reportedly continued until she was 14. Clemishire accused Morris after he had been invited to stay with her family in Oklahoma during the Christmas season of 1982. “After almost 43 years, the law has finally caught up with Robert Morris for the horrific crimes he committed against me,” Clemishire stated, expressing gratitude towards those who helped pursue justice.

Morris, now 63, resigned from his position at Gateway Church last summer shortly after Clemishire went public with her accusations. The church, which has grown to serve over 100,000 attendees, released a statement acknowledging the ongoing legal proceedings and offered prayers for all involved, especially for Clemishire and her family.

According to the indictment, Morris is accused of using his position as a pastor to manipulate and sexually exploit the young girl, a charge that has led to fierce condemnation from the state's Attorney General, Gentner Drummond. “There can be no tolerance for those who sexually prey on children," Drummond declared.

Morris publicly acknowledged a past of "inappropriate sexual behavior" in a statement to media last year but has not made specific comments regarding the recent legal charges. Following the indictment, efforts to contact Morris were met with unavailability, raising questions regarding his representation in this legal matter.

As the case unfolds, Morris faces serious legal implications, with potential prison time of up to 20 years for each of the five felony charges he faces. For more details, you can refer to the full articles on New York Times, HuffPost, and India Times.
