SYDNEY – Cricket Australia has announced that the 150th anniversary Test match between Australia and England will be held as a day-night contest at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from March 11-15, 2027. This significant match celebrates the rich history of the sport, as the MCG is the site of the first-ever Test played in 1877, where Australia edged out England by 45 runs.

Cricket Australia confirmed that this fixture is expected to draw significant crowds, as it will be the first men's Test played under lights at the 100,000-capacity venue. “Playing under lights will be a fantastic way to celebrate both our game's rich heritage and Test cricket's modern evolution,” said Cricket Australia Chief Executive Todd Greenberg. He emphasized that this format will enhance attendance and excitement around the event, marking it as “one of the great cricket events.”

The MCG had previously hosted the centenary match between these two teams in 1977, which Australia won again by a 45-run margin. The upcoming match is a standalone event, not a part of the Ashes series but will occur later this year when England visits Australia for a five-Test series.
