Big Bear bald eagles Jackie and Shadow have become the proud parents of two new eaglets, which hatched recently in their nest high above Big Bear Lake in California. The couple, which has a devoted following, celebrated their first successful hatching this season after a challenging previous year when all three of their eggs failed to hatch. According to the Los Angeles Times, the initial streak of success this year began with the first pip, or crack in the egg, appearing on March 2, shortly after followers began their vigil.

The excited spectators watched their beloved birds as the first eaglet emerged just before midnight on March 3, followed by a second eaglet on the morning of March 4. Jackie laid a total of three eggs this season, continuing their legacy since becoming a pair in 2018, as noted by the HuffPost.

Fans have remained hopeful that the third egg will also hatch, with the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley managing the live stream and updating followers on the progress. Biologist Sandy Steers remarked, "Hatching is a long process, and it may take a day or more for the chick to fully emerge from the shell," emphasizing the possibility for continued hatchling excitement.

Despite facing heart-wrenching losses in previous years, such as losing eaglets Cookie and Simba, Jackie and Shadow's bond has remained strong, giving their supporters hope for the future. As fans look forward to potential new hatchlings, the eaglets will quickly develop under the watchful eyes of their dedicated parents. "It only takes 10 to 14 weeks before they go from this tiny little thing to over 3 feet tall," Steers explained CBS News.

The journey of Jackie and Shadow has captured the hearts of many, with their recent achievements serving as a reminder of resilience in the face of adversity. As these two eaglets grow, they will undoubtedly continue to inspire their legion of wildlife admirers.
