Sean “Diddy” Combs has initiated a $100 million lawsuit against NBCUniversal, its streaming platform Peacock, and Ample Entertainment after the release of the documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.
In a legal complaint filed in New York, Combs accuses the documentary of disseminating “outrageous lies and conspiracy theories,” including severe allegations like serial murder and sexual abuse of minors. The film, viewed as sensationalist, claims to connect Combs to the deaths of multiple individuals in his life, including Kim Porter, the mother of his three children, whose death from pneumonia is misrepresented in the film, as stated in the Salon.
The documentary, which debuted in January, features interviews with various personal acquaintances of Combs, including music producer Al B. Sure!. In the lawsuit, Combs argues that the entire premise of the documentary seeks to maliciously conflate his life events with heinous accusations that he has not been convicted of, including allegations of sex trafficking and implicating him as a “monster” akin to individuals like Jeffrey Epstein.
Combs' attorney, Erica Wolff, criticized the defendants for prioritizing profit over truth, claiming they demonstrated a reckless disregard for the truth in their reporting. The lawsuit asserts that the documentary has harmed Combs' right to a fair trial as he faces a range of civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse, including instances when the victims were minors.
Combs is currently incarcerated at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting a federal trial set to commence on May 5, where he is pleading not guilty to charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
In light of these serious claims, NBC has not yet provided a response to the lawsuit. The stakes are high as Combs seeks not only to recover damages but to protect his reputation against what he describes as malicious mischaracterizations in this highly publicized documentary. The ongoing legal battles surrounding Combs are a focal point for media attention as his trial date approaches.
