Key Highlights:

  • Tiger Woods will compete in the Genesis Invitational, his first PGA Tour event since July 2024.
  • The tournament, hosted at Torrey Pines, has a $20 million purse and supports Woods' TGR Foundation.
  • The 15-time major champion recently underwent back surgery and is returning to competitive golf.

Tiger Woods has officially confirmed his participation in the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, marking his first PGA Tour event since last July's British Open. The event will take place from February 13-16, and Woods' commitment comes shortly after the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, who died at the age of 80.

The Genesis Invitational, usually held at Riviera Country Club, has been temporarily relocated to Torrey Pines due to wildfires affecting the Los Angeles area. This signature event features a substantial purse of $20 million and benefits Woods' TGR Foundation. "Having the tournament moved to Torrey Pines is a privilege," Woods declared, as he returns to one of his most successful courses where he has claimed numerous titles, including the 2008 U.S. Open.

Woods is looking to shake off nearly seven months away from competitive play, the longest stretch of his career, following a microdiscectomy surgery he underwent in September. This will be the first time he participates in 18 holes of competition since the surgery. Last December, Woods joined in a friendly event with his son Charlie but emphasized in interviews that he still had “a long way to go” before returning to peak competitive form.

Notable competitors in this year’s field include world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Woods, who holds a record-tying 82 PGA Tour victories, has indicated that despite the challenges with his health, he is eager to compete again and gauge his performance against the top players in the game.
