In a recent interview on NBC's Today show, billionaire Bill Gates opened up about his relationship with Paula Hurd, a widow and philanthropist, declaring, “I’m lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula. We’re having fun, going to the Olympics and lots of great things.” Gates, now 69, confirmed his connection with Hurd publicly for the first time, although they have been linked romantically since 2022. Hurd was previously married to former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd until his passing in 2019.
Since making their relationship public, Gates and Hurd have been seen together at notable events, including the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony and the engagement celebration of Jeff Bezos, highlighting their blossoming romance.
While Gates shared his current happiness, he also reflected on the pain of his 2021 divorce from Melinda French Gates. He stated in a prior interview with the Times of London, “It was the mistake I most regret,” adding that the separation was tough for both parties. Gates acknowledged taking responsibility for certain failures that contributed to their marriage difficulties, notably mentioning an affair with a Microsoft employee and a controversial association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite the challenges of the past, Gates expressed relief in moving forward, stating, “I’ve moved past the divorce, and Melinda's doing well. I’ve got a lot of work that I love to do.” As he begins this new chapter with Hurd, Gates appears optimistic about the future.
