Tiger Woods announced that his mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early on Tuesday, at the age of 80. In a heartfelt post on social media, he referred to her as “a force of nature.” He expressed his profound grief, stating, “I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter; without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible” (Guardian). Woods did not disclose the cause of death, and the news follows Kultida’s presence just a week prior at his TGL match in Florida.
Kultida, born in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, met Earl Woods while working as a civilian secretary in the U.S. Army during his military service, leading to their marriage in 1968. Tiger was born in 1975, and Kultida quickly became an integral part of his successful journey in golf. She was often seen supporting him at tournaments, and he credited her with encouraging him to wear red on Sundays, citing it as his “power color” (AP News).
Of her influence, Woods said, “She has been there my entire life... I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom” (NY Times). The PGA Tour commissioner acknowledged Kultida’s foundational role in her son’s career, stating, “Those of us who have been lucky enough to have a firsthand view of Tiger Woods’ career know how much both his greatness and his humanity have stemmed from the love and support of his mother” (LA Times).
Over the years, Kultida maintained a low profile while remaining a constant source of support in Tiger’s life, even after the death of her husband in 2006. She was present during significant moments in Tiger’s career, including his 2019 Masters victory and the 2010 press conference where he openly discussed personal struggles
(AP Golf). In the wake of her passing, former President Donald Trump paid tribute to her contributions, highlighting her amazing influence on Tiger Woods (CNN).
