OpenAI has officially introduced its latest artificial intelligence tool, Deep Research, designed to revolutionize time-consuming online research tasks. The launch of Deep Research follows a surge of competition from the Chinese startup DeepSeek and highlights OpenAI's commitment to enhancing its offerings in the field of AI agents.

According to Reuters, this innovative tool enables users to conduct intricate research in mere minutes—work that would typically consume hours for a human analyst. Deep Research harnesses the power of OpenAI’s upcoming o3 model, optimized for web browsing and data analysis, to scavenge numerous online resources, including text, images, and PDFs, to compile comprehensive reports.

The rollout of Deep Research, now available for ChatGPT Pro users at a subscription of $200 per month, is aimed at professionals in various fields, including finance, science, and engineering. Users can submit up to 100 queries per month initially, as stated by The Guardian.

Mark Chen, the chief research officer of OpenAI, remarked that this tool can produce outputs comparable to those crafted by a seasoned research analyst. The AI is designed to operate autonomously for durations of five to 30 minutes, reflecting real-time adjustments based on the data it compiles. However, OpenAI has emphasized that the model is still in its nascent phases, with limitations such as potential inaccuracies and difficulty in distinguishing facts from misinformation, as noted by Business Insider.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, mentioned in a recent post that users should experiment with Deep Research on their most challenging tasks that could be resolved through internet research.

This launch comes shortly after OpenAI's unveiling of another agent, Operator, showcasing the accelerating pace of innovation within the AI landscape. While enticing, industry experts have cautioned about the need for users to critically evaluate the information gathered by such systems to mitigate the risk of relying on inaccurate outputs.
