Los Angeles, CA – Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Southern California on Sunday to protest planned mass deportations under President Donald Trump's administration. With a primary focus on downtown Los Angeles, protesters began at the historic Olvera Street and marched towards City Hall, advocating for urgent immigration reform.
As the day progressed, demonstrators successfully blocked all lanes of the U.S. 101 freeway, creating significant traffic delays in both directions. Many protestors sat in the freeway lanes, while California Highway Patrol officers maintained a presence without making any immediate arrests. Witnesses reported that passing motorists honked in support of the rallying crowds, who carried signs with messages such as “Nobody is illegal” and “Immigrants Make America Great” according to AP News.
In addition to the Los Angeles protest, hundreds gathered in Riverside, while similar demonstrations unfolded in San Diego. In Texas, approximately 1,600 people participated in rallies against recent actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas as reported by SFGate.
Protesters waved both Mexican and American flags, voicing their dissent against the administration's increased focus on deportation initiatives. Sunday’s protests not only captured widespread attention but also highlighted the ongoing discussions surrounding immigration policies in the United States.
