Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, has welcomed her second child, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. Born on January 22, 2025, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, Athena weighed just 4 pounds and 5 ounces, prompting concern as she was born several weeks prematurely, according to a statement from BBC. However, both mother and baby are reportedly doing well.

The palace announced that Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were thrilled with the arrival of their new daughter. “We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect,” Mozzi expressed on Instagram, adding heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff for their care during this special time. The couple also have a three-year-old daughter, Sienna, and Mozzi's son from a previous relationship, Christopher Woolf, aged eight.

The announcement of Athena's birth delighted members of the royal family, including King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who have been informed about the new addition to the family, as reported by USA Today.

Notably, Athena’s first middle name pays homage to the late Queen Elizabeth, reflecting a family tradition of honoring royals with names. Both Sienna and Athena carry “Elizabeth” in their names, highlighting their connection to their esteemed grandmother. The joyful news was celebrated on social media by Beatrice's mother, Sarah Ferguson, and sister, Princess Eugenie, who expressed their love and excitement for the new arrival. Fergie described the family as being “overflowing with love and joy” over welcoming Athena.

Athena’s arrival further expands the modern royal family, providing a new cousin for Prince William's children—George, Charlotte, and Louis. As the family enjoys this new chapter, Beatrice remains ninth in the line of succession to the British throne, while little Athena slots in at eleventh.

The family's gratitude to the healthcare professionals involved accentuates their appreciation of essential workers during such personal moments. As they embark on this new journey, Beatrice and Edoardo are basking in the joy of expanding their family.
