The PGA Tour has officially announced the relocation of the Genesis Invitational from its traditional home at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, scheduled for February 13-16, 2025. The decision comes in light of devastating wildfires that have battered Los Angeles, prompting an emphasis on relief efforts for affected areas.

Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion and host of the event, expressed gratitude towards San Diego and the Torrey Pines community for stepping in during this crisis. "We are grateful to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational... and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area," Woods stated, according to Los Angeles Times.

This year's Genesis Invitational boasts a remarkable $20 million purse and aims to raise awareness and funds for victims of the wildfires, which have tragically claimed the lives of 28 individuals and destroyed over 14,000 structures since their onset on January 7. Although Riviera Country Club has not sustained any damage, its vicinity lies in the shadow of the destruction, making it unfeasible to host the tournament there this year, as highlighted in AP News.

This shift allows Torrey Pines to host two significant events within a span of four weeks, facilitating a streamlined use of existing infrastructure due to their recent hosting of the Farmers Insurance Open. "Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards," commented PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. The tournament serves as a reminder of both the spirit of sportsmanship and community support in challenging times.

The Genesis Invitational, originally started as the Los Angeles Open in 1926, has a storied history with Riviera, a course famous for its challenging layout and historical significance in professional golf. The PGA Tour plans for the tournament to return to its established venue of Riviera in 2026, reaffirming its legacy, as noted in Reuters.
