Marilyn Manson Cleared of Sexual Assault Charges Following Lengthy Investigation

Credited from: APNEWS

Marilyn Manson, also known as Brian Warner, will not face criminal charges related to allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence after a comprehensive Los Angeles Times investigation spanning four years. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that the allegations are too old under the law and insufficient evidence exists to support a prosecution. "We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt," Hochman stated.

The investigation, initiated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 2021, focused on accusations made by multiple women, including actress Esmé Bianco and former fiancée Evan Rachel Wood. Bianco expressed her disappointment over the decision, stating, "Whilst I am deeply disappointed by the decision of the District Attorney to not bring charges in the case against Brian Warner, I am sadly not surprised."

District Attorney Hochman acknowledged the courage of the women who came forward, thanking them for their cooperation during the lengthy inquiry. Manson has been accused of abuse by at least 16 women, but he has consistently denied all allegations, describing them as "horrible distortions of reality."

The DA’s office noted that prior attempts to charge Manson were hindered by the expiration of the statute of limitations and a lack of corroborative evidence, leading to a similar conclusion in an earlier investigation in 2018. This time, however, the case was more thoroughly examined following community advocacy and pressure from victims' rights groups.

In the wake of the decision, Manson’s attorney, Howard King, called this a vindication, stating, "We are very pleased that, after a thorough and incredibly lengthy review of all of the actual evidence, the District Attorney has concluded what we knew and expressed from the start — Brian Warner is innocent."

This case has sparked a larger conversation around the treatment of sexual assault allegations and the legal system’s ability to handle such cases effectively. As discussions continue, both Bianco and Wood remain vocal advocates for the accountability of abusers in the face of what they see as systemic failures.
