NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The NBA has made the decision to postpone the game scheduled for Wednesday night between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans following a historic winter storm that dropped nearly a foot of snow on the city. The severe weather conditions made road travel extremely hazardous in a region ill-equipped for snow clearance, as noted by HuffPost.
The Bucks took precautions and arrived in New Orleans a day earlier than planned in anticipation of potential road issues, aiming to hold their game at the downtown Smoothie King Center, which has a capacity of 18,000 fans. However, temperatures persisted in the 30s on Wednesday, leading local authorities to close many main highways as well as surface roads covered in ice, affecting gameplay logistics according to AP News.
The impact of the storm has led to widespread closures across the region, including schools and businesses. Currently, the Bucks are scheduled to face off against the Miami Heat on Thursday, but it remains unclear if they will leave New Orleans prior to game day. Furthermore, Louis Armstrong International Airport has suspended all commercial departures for the day. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are set to play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.
