A tragic fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in northwestern Turkey has resulted in at least 10 fatalities and 32 injuries, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday, originating from the restaurant floor of the hotel located at the Kartalkaya ski resort, as reported by VOA News and Reuters.

With approximately 234 guests present in the 11-story wooden structure, many were forced to escape through windows as panic set in. Eyewitness accounts shared that guests were seen jumping out of windows in a frantic attempt to flee the flames. Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin confirmed that more than 250 first responders were dispatched to manage the situation and assist evacuations.

The fire occurs during a nationwide two-week school holiday, typically a peak time for skiing activities in the Bolu region, attracting many families from major cities like Istanbul and Ankara. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire as recovery efforts continue.
