The upcoming second inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is poised to be distinct from his first, featuring an expectedly smaller audience inside the Capitol Rotunda. This change is attributed to a decision to move the ceremony indoors, announced recently due to dangerously low temperatures, but it does not alter the event's scheduled order. According to India Times, the inaugural activities will take place at noon ET on January 20, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
During the ceremony, Trump will deliver an inaugural address. Notably, his inaugural address in 2017 spanned only 16 minutes and 1,433 words, marking it as the shortest since Jimmy Carter's in 1977. Alongside Trump, prominent religious figures will also play crucial roles in the proceedings. Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York is scheduled to provide the invocation, sharing with PIX11 Morning News that he is honored to do so.
Moreover, Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of the famed evangelist Billy Graham, will also deliver an invocation. Despite some controversy surrounding Trump's presidency, Graham, who initially withheld his endorsements, later supported Trump after he was deemed the presumptive Republican nominee.
Reflecting the event's interfaith nature, the benediction will include four religious leaders from diverse faiths: Rabbi Ari Berman from Yeshiva University, Imam Husham Al Husainy of the Karbalaa Islamic Center, Senior Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church in Detroit, and Rev. Father Frank Mann from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn.
In another significant moment, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath of office to Trump, continuing the tradition of the chief justice overseeing presidential swearings-in. Alongside him, Justice Brett Kavanaugh will administer the oath to Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Weather conditions at the time of the inauguration are forecasted to be harsh, with temperatures expected to reach -4.4°C (24°F) and lows of -13°C (9°F), accompanied by wind chills making it feel even colder. Snow accumulations preceding the event may enhance the wintry conditions.
For those eager to tune in, all major news networks in the U.S. will offer live coverage, with outlets such as CNN, CBS, CSPAN, and PBS starting as early as midnight ET. For viewers outside the U.S., global streaming options include CSPAN's YouTube channel and the White House's official website, ensuring families and viewers can follow the inauguration live from various time zones. Notably, in the United Kingdom, BBC One will broadcast the event starting at 3:30 PM GMT.
This event is anticipated to attract a mix of influential political figures, industry leaders, and foreign dignitaries. Confirmed attendees include Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Former presidents such as Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush are also expected to be in attendance, although notable figures like Michelle Obama and Nancy Pelosi have opted not to participate.
